16 Bell Lane
Stay in a three hundred year old cottage in the heart of Ludlow; just yards from the market, shops and splendid Georgian architecture that makes this one of the most delightful towns in England. Walk to the famous restaurants or buy your own food from the market or the four quality butchers which surround Market Square. Eat local meat and vegetables in the slow food capital of England. The architecture of this old town is delightful, you will notice buildings which make you smile, just because they are so lovely. If you want a real break to relax, without the need to drive anywhere, stay in our cottage in the medieval quarter of the town. Ludlow is all there, a five minute walk to the centre along historic narrow lanes that will take you back in time.

16 Bell Lane is a two bedroom cottage updated and furnished to provide comfortable accommodation. Tasteful and charming furnishings enhance your enjoyment.

Downstairs consists of a comfortable sitting room with a continental flavour as we have imported some of the furniture from France, and scoured local curiosity shops to create an eclectic country feel for our lovely house. The good sized kitchen has a modern food preparation area, with a small dresser for storage and the essential country farmhouse table where you can plan your jaunts over a coffee. Go through the kitchen into a small hallway to find the bathroom, and the backdoor leading to a small suntrap gravelled garden, prettily planted with containers. Wonderful for sitting out in with the Sunday papers!
The age of the cottage is part of its charm, but it does mean that the original feature wooden stairs, whilst full of character, are also steep and not suitable for very small children or people who might not be as agile as they once were. Climb the stairs to a small landing and turn right into the generously proportioned master bedroom, elegantly fitted out with a comfortable iron frame bed and tasteful soft furnishings.

The smallest (third) bedroom is reached through the master bedroom. When we stay in the house, we use this room as a dressing room so that suitcases are conveniently out of the way and we have plenty of space to get ourselves organised. However, with it's folding bed and sunny aspect overlooking the garden, this lovely room is also perfect for a child or single adult.

Across the landing, the second bedroom is furnished with two antique French single beds. We found these in a market in France and immediately new that they would be perfect for this house, and we were right. Not only do they look good, but they are really comfortable, too!

Chill out time ...

Ludlow is like no other town in England. Time really does seem to go at its own speed here, and whenever we stay in Bell Lane, we really do feel our lives slow down. If you are anything like us, then the first excursion of the day is likely to be a stroll up to the Market Square for a paper and some fresh bread from any one of Ludlow's fine artisan bakers, collecting some hand locally made sausages or farm cured bacon and some fresh ground coffee for a leisurely breakfast. From then on, the day only gets better.

Ludlow races, the theatre festival, food festival, crafts fair, the jaw-dropping castle and events in the castle and town, and fabulous restaurants, the food, and flea markets, the beautiful surrounding countryside, local food, clothes and antique shops too numerous to mention, are all great reasons to visit Ludlow. But don't worry if you happen to visit in one of the rare weeks when there is not some extra event happening in the town ... because being here with ordinary Ludlow life on your doorstep is a treat in itself.

16 Bell Lane is usually booked by the week, but we will accommodate weekend breaks is we possibly can. It is always worth a try; so please do check availability with us.
